Brazil uses the CPF for individuals and the CNPJ for legal persons and other entities. Receita Federal is introducing an alphanumeric CNPJ format for new registrations from July 2026 while existing numeric CNPJs remain valid.

Primary personal tax registration number for natural persons. Brazilians and foreigners can enroll, whether they live in Brazil or abroad, and the number is unique and definitive for each person.
